iPRECIATION is honoured to present a solo exhibition by Singaporean artist and ink master, Zhuang Sheng Tao (庄声涛). Born in China in 1944, Zhuang moved to Singapore in 1955 with his parents. He enrolled in a part-time art program at the Nanyang Academy Of Fine arts in 1964, studying Chinese painting and calligraphy under the tutelage of renowned ink artist, Shi Xiang Tuo. Being exposed to many years of training in the Chinese classics gave him a steadfast grounding in the philosophy of Taoism. Zhuang’s expressive creations are often reflective of the beauty and wisdom of its teachings. His illustrious artistic career took him to many places around the world, including France, New York, Seattle and China, each of which inspired him to seek new expressions for his works. His works are at once a synthesis of traditional and modern themes, showcasing his ability to push boundaries in the world of Chinese ink painting. This exhibition will feature ink paintings with bold strokes and abstract forms, reminiscent of the aesthetics of modern Western art, yet retaining the symbolism and elegance of Chinese ink works. It is a valuable opportunity for collectors, artists, and new audiences to experience Zhuang’s modern and unique interpretations of Chinese ink painting.
