Wang Dongling Venice Biennale Feature in Global Times

Global Times featured Wang Dongling in its article on Dream Stream, the China Pavilion at the 61st Venice International Art Biennale.

The exhibition opened in Venice in May 2026. It presents a dialogue between Eastern cultural heritage, contemporary art and digital technology.

In the feature, Global Times highlights Wang Dongling’s monumental cursive script work, Free and Easy Wandering. The work measures about 6.5 metres high and 16 metres wide.

The article also introduces a calligraphy robot developed with the China Academy of Art and domestic technology firms. The robot draws inspiration from Wang Dongling’s distinctive chaotic script and writes the characters for Dream Stream.

In addition, the China Academy of Art provides further context on the exhibition. According to CAA, Dream Stream takes inspiration from Shen Kuo’s Dream Pool Essays and explores the relationship between art, science, nature and technology.

Overall, Wang Dongling’s inclusion in the China Pavilion highlights his important role in contemporary Chinese calligraphy. It also reflects his continued international presence at major art exhibitions.
