Wang Dongling Featured in Beyond Ink Exhibition in Bologna
Wang Dongling is featured in Beyond Ink: New Horizons in Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy. The exhibition takes place at Collezioni Comunali d’Arte, Palazzo d’Accursio, Bologna.
The exhibition runs from 7 May to 5 July 2026. It explores new directions in contemporary Chinese calligraphy.
In addition, the exhibition shows how calligraphy continues to evolve today. It connects ink, visual art, design, performance and new media.
According to Bologna Welcome, Beyond Ink brings together more than 40 artists and over 55 works. The exhibition includes leading figures such as Wang Dongling, Xu Bing, Gu Wenda, Luo Qi, Zhang Qiang and Wei Ligang.
The exhibition is organised into four sections. These sections cover visual arts, graffiti, decorative and applied arts, and performing arts.
Through these sections, Beyond Ink presents calligraphy as more than written language. Instead, it shows the calligraphic mark as a universal form of expression.
Overall, Wang Dongling’s inclusion in Beyond Ink highlights his important role in contemporary Chinese calligraphy. It also reflects his continued presence in major international exhibitions.
