iPRECIATION is delighted to present The Space Between, a solo exhibition by Singaporean artist Lim Jia Qi (b. 1997), showcasing her latest reflections on the quiet tension between nature and the built environment. From public housing estates to city greenery, Jia Qi’s works draw attention to the subtle, poetic moments embedded in urban life. Through a unique blend of printmaking and painting on carved wood panels, she captures fleeting impressions of space, light, and memory.

About the Exhibition:

The Space Between marks a subtle yet profound shift in Lim Jia Qi’s artistic exploration—from depicting the physical structures of Singapore’s urban landscape to capturing the fleeting impressions they leave behind. Her earlier works focused on everyday elements like benches and void decks, reflecting an interest in how urban design shapes communal life. In her recent shadow series, Jia Qi turns to silhouettes, shadows, and traces, using softly coloured surfaces to evoke a sense of stillness, memory, and emotional resonance. Through intricately carved woodblock panels layered with painting and printmaking, she blurs the boundaries between nature and architecture, tradition and innovation. The eighteen works showcased in this exhibition reveal an evolving practice that transforms tangible spaces into contemplative atmospheres. Collectively, they serve not only as reflections of Singapore’s carefully curated urban ecology but also as meditative invitations to sense, feel, and reflect on how space is experienced and continually reimagined.

About the Artist:

Lim Jia Qi is a Singaporean artist whose practice centres on the quiet poetics of urban life, exploring the subtle relationships between nature, architecture, and lived experience. A graduate of LASALLE College of the Arts with a BA (Hons) and Diploma in Fine Arts, Jia Qi works primarily with woodblock printmaking and painting, merging traditional techniques with contemporary sensibilities. Her works have been presented in solo exhibitions such as Urban: Backyard (2022) and Concrete Encounters (2019), and featured in major group shows including ART SG and exhibitions at iPreciation and the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore. Recognised for her thoughtful engagement of space and form, Jia Qi has been featured in The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, and MUSE Magazine. She was a part of the National Arts Council’s Young Talent Programme. Her evolving practice demonstrates a profound sensitivity to the transient, layered textures of the urban environment, and her works have been acquired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
