Lim Jia Qi 林加淇 is a Singaporean contemporary artist whose practice investigates the overlooked and intimate spaces of the urban environment, particularly those embedded within everyday Singaporean life. Her works traverse public housing landscapes, domestic interiors, and urban nature, revealing a quiet poetry that emerges from spaces often taken for granted. Through careful observation, Lim frames these environments as sites of reflection, memory, and lived experience.
Trained as a printmaker, Lim adopts an expanded and experimental approach to the medium. She carves wood to create matrices that function not merely as tools for reproduction, but as autonomous pictorial surfaces. By treating the woodblock as a canvas, she blurs the boundaries between printmaking and painting, challenging conventional hierarchies of process and medium. This material-driven methodology allows chance, texture, and physical labour to play an integral role in the formation of her imagery.
Lim graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts in 2019, following a Diploma in Fine Arts in 2017. She has presented solo exhibitions at iPreciation Gallery and ION Art Gallery under the Young Talent Programme, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Singapore and the region, including presentations at ART SG, the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, and international platforms in Southeast Asia.
Her practice has received critical attention through major publications and media outlets such as The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, MUSE Magazine, and MediaCorp Channel 8. Lim is a recipient of multiple awards and scholarships, including the Young Talent Programme Solo Exhibition Prize and grants from the National Arts Council Singapore. Through her evolving body of work, Lim Jia Qi continues to invite viewers to contemplate the subtle relationships between space, memory, and daily life within the urban condition.
