Description

Written by Cultural Counsellor of Embassy of The People’s Republic of China in Singapore, Dr Zhu Qi, as a joint publishing effort with Singapore Art Museum, this book was published in commemoration of Ju’s islandwide exhibition in Singapore. Born in 1938, Ju Ming learnt the skill of traditional carving from temple craftsman Lee Chin-chuan when he was 15 years old. At the age of 30, he became an apprentice of Master Yuyu Yang to gain a deeper understanding of modern sculpture. Since then, Ju Ming has continued to challenge himself as a sculptor, using a diverse range of materials in his work, among which there are stone, wood, ceramic, foam rubber an stainless steel.

This book includes a preface by art historian Michael Sullivan and then director of Singapore Art Museum Kwok Kian Chow, as well as an interview with the artist by the author Dr Zhu Qi.
