Wong Shih Yaw (b.1967)

Wong Shih Yaw (b.1967, Singapore) graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore (1989) and was a key member of pioneering local contemporary art group, The Artists Village (TAV) during the 80’s and early 90’s. Wong’s acrylic paintings draws upon his personal experiences and religious faith, featuring narratives that are highly imaginative and oftentimes allegorical in nature. His observations and commentaries of daily life encounters are manifested through subjects inspired by everyday figures and objects. These distinct characters are intricately detailed, often accompanied by symbolic imagery that offer viewers a hint of his underlying message. Wong has participated in several exhibitions including  “Eleven Stories” (Solo exhibition at Art Projects Gallery, Hong Kong, 2017) and “Allegories – 20 Years Retrospective Exhibition” (Solo exhibition at NAFA Galleries 1 & 2, Singapore, 2015). His works are collected by the Singapore Art Museum, United Overseas Bank, and other private collectors from Singapore and overseas.
