In November we welcome our new team member, John Lye, as Gallery Director. The gallery will be anticipating an exciting period ahead as we present new artists of diverse repertoires and mediums. John, an ardent advocate for scholarship and connoisseurship, will help clients in shaping and building their collections along with our gallery’s talented team. We look forward to the synergy that John will bring to the gallery by combining his business skills and knowledge of art to further business development.
John started his finance career at a U.S. investment bank but decided to pursue his interest in visual arts. He completed his Master’s degree at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and upon his return became the curator of the Lee Kong Chian Art Museum of NUS Museum. Subsequently, he went to graduate schools at Tokyo University and Harvard University, focusing his study and research on medieval period Chinese and Japanese paintings. However, he returned to Hong Kong to run a private equity firm and eventually left for a few years of hiatus to travel and explore the underwater world.
