GAO XINGJIAN AT THE SNITE MUSEUM OF ART AT NOTRE DAME, U.S.A.

SINGAPORE - The Nobel Laureate GAO XINGJIAN is certainly having an eventful 2007. Following his spectacular exhibition at the Ludwig Museum, Koblenz Germany, the 67-year-old art master will once again enchant with his phenomenal ink paintings at The Snite Museum of Art, Notre Dame, U.S.A. that will be held in collaboration with iPRECIATION.

Preview is slated to fall on 10 September and Gao has tentatively been scheduled to present a speech on this day. 11 September marks the exclusive invite-only reception ceremony that will undoubtedly be filled with academic exchanges, (you can probably count on some palatable snacks and a few bottles of delectable wine too) after which the exhibit will be opened formally to the public by Museum Director Charles Loving. Commentary by the artist himself will most adequately end the event-packed night.

12 September, Professor Mabel Lee, ( Honorary Associate of the School of Languages and Cultures at the University of Sydney) who is responsible for the translation of Gao’s Nobel-winning work Soul Mountain, will give a talk on Gao in translation, fiction and painting. Gao’s film La Silhouette sinon l’ombre will also be broadcasted on the evening of this day. This promises to offer audience further insight into the philosophical artist’s wealth of creativity and his seemingly infinite source of inspiration.

Gao Xingjian @ Snite will be held from 11 September to 21 October. Tuesday & Wednesday 10 am - 4 pm, Thursday – Saturday 10 am - 5 pm, Sunday 1 pm - 5 pm, and closed on Mondays and major holidays. Please contact the Museum for further information or visit their website at http://www.nd.edu/~sniteart/visitor/index.html.

SNEAK PEEK: Look out for the Nobel Laureate’s visit to Singapore after this Snite event, where he will stage his long-awaited solo-show at iPRECIATION! Gao is indeed having a busy year!
