Venue: Juming Museum, Main Building

Singapore - Unveiled at the Juming Museum on 4 September 2007 is the latest and largest selection of works by master sculptor Ju Ming that extends his collection of the “Living World Series – Painted Wood”. Retaining the core theme of this series, Ju Ming however makes a stunning reversion to basics as exemplified by the white he has applied on his wooden sculptures in this White Colour Nature Wood exhibition.

The ethos of the vibrant “Living World Series –Painted Wood” is the interpretative and imaginative freedom viewers can attain from admiring the works. The figures are assumed in positions that can encourage the audience to derive an array of evaluations from various angles; such is the lively nature of Ju Ming’s “Living World Series”. Retaining this central idea, these newest sculptural art by Ju Ming reveals the medium’s original texture with the application of white to the wood. Tantamount to a return to the raw basics, there is an allure in the more simplified white colour that categorizes this collection of works.

In Ju Ming’s own words, “… it is no longer necessary to put a lot of colours on sculptures” as he believes this will “obscure the in-born qualities of the sculpture itself” and with just pure white, Ju Ming intends to “let their natural beauty shine” and as the saying goes: Less is More!
